FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is The Twist?

The Twist is a live storytelling night founded in London where people come together to hear surprising, funny, personal and unexpected stories. No topic is off-limits. The twist? Every word said on-stage is true.

Do I need to be a storyteller to attend?

Not at all! Most people come simply to listen, enjoy the atmosphere and experience the stories. Our shows bring together everyone from all walks of life.

Can anyone tell a story?

If you'd like to share a story, you're welcome to sign up here. You don't have to be an experienced writer or performer. You don't even have to have performed on a stage before. Our events are for everyone. However, storytelling themes and prompts may vary from event to event, so check the details for the night you're attending before you apply speak at one of our shows in London or beyond.

What kind of stories are told?

Stories range in topic and theme. They can be about anything at all, as long as they're true. At this time, we don't showcase fictional stories or poetry at our spoken word events. The aim of The Twist is to celebrate the art of storytelling, with a focus on stories that are true.

Are the stories rehearsed?

Storytellers using prepare and practice their stories. Some might learn them by heart; others might read from a notebook. We're happy for storytellers to take any approach that feels most comfortable for them! The Twist is about authentic live storytelling rather than polished theatre. You'll hear real people telling stories in their own voices.

How long do events last?

The exact running time can vary depending on the event. Usually we start at 7.30pm and wrap by 10pm latest.

Where do events happen?

We are a travelling storytelling collective. We run one of the best storytelling nights in London -- and we do it by moving to different parts of London to bring our event to as many local communities as possible. Please check the specific event you are attending for venue and location details. Past events have taken place everywhere from Canada Water to Walthamstow and beyond.

What should I expect on the night?

A relaxed, social evening featuring live stories, good food and drinks, and good company.

Do I need to book in advance?

We always recommend booking ahead, as seats may be limited and we do often sell out storytelling shows. However, in some cases, tickets may be available on the door, so keep an eye on our Instagram and events pages for the latest ticket info.

Can I come on my own?

Yes! Coming solo is completely fine. Storytelling nights are naturally social, and you'll be surrounded  by people who are there for the same reason: to hear a good story.

We recommend a guideline age of 18+ as most of our events take place in venues serving alcoholic beverages and stories shared by speakers sometimes explore adult themes.

To help storytellers feel comfortable sharing personal experiences, we kindly ask no photos or recording without the explicit consent of the speaker.
